Richard Whitmill

Richard is a Chartered Company Secretary and Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute UK and Ireland, bringing over 15 years of dedicated experience within the voluntary sector. His background spans roles as a trustee, volunteer, and employee, covering local charity support, funding, and asset-based community development. This career history has equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique governance challenges and opportunities within the Charity and not-for-profit sector.

Richard is a Partner at Counterculture LLP, where he provides specialist governance advice to a range of clients across the charity, education and arts sectors. He acts as a retained Company Secretary and lead governance officer to a range of clients, guiding them through critical governance matters and ensuring smooth functioning of board meetings. He also undertakes one off projects such as governance reviews, drafting of governing documents and advice on charitable incorporation.

Richard undertook the CGI Qualifying Programme between 2022 and 2025. He is the winner of the John Phillips Memorial Prize for 2024/25 for highest overall performance on the Qualifying Programme, having achieved six distinctions. He also received the AW Goodbody award for his Interpreting Financial and Accounting Information paper, having received a mark of 95%.
